RIVERSIDE HAT-TRICK - SPORTS CLUB OF THE YEAR 2007

Riverside Tennis Club has once again been voted Bedford's Sports Club of the Year for the third year running.  The Sports Awards are handed out by Bedford Borough Council's Sports Development Unit and Sport Bedford.

 WELCOME

BEDFORDSHIRE'S PREMIER TENNIS CLUB

Riverside Tennis Club is Bedfordshire's premier lawn tennis club and proud winner of the Bedford Sports Club of the Year title in 2007.  The Club also won the award in 2005 and 2006.

The Club offers play all-year round on nine hardcourts, all of which are floodlit, and three of which convert into indoor courts during the winter, courtesy of an Air Hall facility.

The Club is one of the few in Bedfordshire to have a Clubhouse complete with a Bar, changing facilities, a fully-equipped kitchen, and games facilities such as Table Tennis.

COMPETITIVE PLAY

The Club has a strong membership, with excellent performance by Club teams within Bedfordshire County Leagues.

COACHING

A full range of coaching and community work is delivered, catering for all ages (from 3 years through to 90 years!) and playing abilities.

ADULT SOCIAL TENNIS

There is a programme of activities for Adult Members, including Social Mixed Doubles Evenings on Wednesdays, Social Singles Tennis on Thursday Evenings, and Social Tournament Play on Friday Evenings.

FLEXIBLE MEMBERSHIP PACKAGES

A wide variety of membership packages is available, too, enabling you to choose the right membership type according to your needs.

Please take a look around this website to read more about what's on offer at Riverside Tennis Club, and if you're interested in joining, contact our Membership Secretary, Gina Ciuro, who will be happy to talk through the various tennis programmes organised by the Club.

 NEWS

MEMBERSHIP AT ALL TIME HIGH

The club is continuing to grow at a healthy rate.  As at the end of October the membership stood at 338 (adult/junior/mini).  Our finances are very healthy and we are continually improving the clubs facilities, both on and off court.  For more information please see the monthly minutes of the Committee Meetings on the Clubhouse notice board.

BUBBLE GOES UP

After our October 1st booking was cancelled due to bad weather and technical problems  later in the month, October 21st finally saw the bubble up and running.  It is great to be able to play 'indoors' again!  For those new to the club, and as a reminder for everyone, 45 minutes tennis in the bubble costs £6 per court - this price is held at the same level as last year.  This is paid for by purchasing stickers either from the shop, the bar or the office, which then must be placed onto the relevant slot on the booking sheets in the clubhouse.  One sticker is required for every 45 minutes of play.  The special offer of '10 stickers for the price of 8' is also again available.  Evening sessions can either be booked from 7pm until 8.30 or 8.30 onwards.  ENJOY!

WINTER AND INVITATION LEAGUES GET UNDERWAY

With three leagues operating each week this has taken a lot of organization.  There have been a few teething problems but these will be resolved as soon as possible.  We hope you enjoy lots of good tennis.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The cups are now back from the engravers and can be picked up from behind the bar during opening hours.

ROSE BOWL TOURNAMENT - AMERICAN SCORING

This takes place on Sunday the 16th of November, starting at 11am.  It costs just £5 to enter, including lunch and tea.  The entry form is on the Notice Board, please join in as it would be great to see all 9 courts in use.

THIRD TEAM REPORT

First game for the third team was at home against Woburn Sands on a windy Sunday morning. Jules and Sue Hadden teamed up for the first time in the third team and Caroline Wright and Claire Cummings played together. Excuses may have been the leaves, weather or hangover on a Sunday morning, but any way we lost by 4 rubbers to zero. Caroline and Claire managed to win the first set against their second team but then fell away in the tie break decider. However, a lovely cup of tea and some cakes followed and the home team made good use of the clubhouse facilities for some post match chatter and team bonding. Onwards and upwards, and any ladies interested in joining the teams do contact Claire on 01234 300008.

COACHING

1. First 'On The Line Sports' Grade 4 LTA tournament ran throughout half term. We greatly appreciate the sponsorship from Paul and Jo at the shop. Some excellent performances from the Riverside performance squad players. Well over 60% of finalists home grown!

2. Junior Club Championships 2008. The draw for the Junior Club Championships is on the notice boards. Finals will be held on 20 December - come and watch our best juniors in action.

3. Mini Tennis Talent ID. Caitlin Ashman, Charlie Axford and Bilal Malik will be attending regional training with the LTA. We wish them well. Watch out as they'res loads of up and coming players just behind them !

4. Local sports awards – please keep your eyes open for this in the local papers and feel free to nominate someone from the club!

TENNIS TRIP TO LAKE GARDA

The list and further details are on the board but at present we do not have enough names.  As we have a lot of new members it would be nice to see some join the trip next year.  Unfortunately the trip will not go ahead if we do not get any more interest.
